On The Difference Between a Walk, Hike, Trek or Trip?
What do you call the experience of moving through 63.5 miles on footpaths above Los Angeles in the Santa Monica Mountains? It was an urban experience, an infrastructure experience, a wilderness experience. I’d been thinking of Walter Benjamin so the word flâneur came into my head. I like the invention of the word Flânike a combination of the words flâneur + hike, but its a tad too bon-vivantish. Since this was an inward and outward journey, I’m going with the word trip despite the lack of entheogens.
